Promote Your Online Store: Marketing Strategies

There’s a well-known moral exemplified in the tortoise and the hare fable – “slow and steady wins the race.” The same is true in ecommerce marketing.

Every online store wants to increase traffic and conversions. But even after you’ve put together a basic strategy it can still be challenging to decide on which marketing tactics you should try.

That’s why we put together an overview of effective marketing tactics and ecommerce tools along with ideas to help you implement each approach. The ideas themselves run the gamut from straightforward acquisition to generating more repeat purchases from the customer base you already have.

Ecommerce Advertising

In similar fashion to the way advertising falls beneath the umbrella of marketing, ecommerce advertising falls beneath ecommerce marketing — and when used in tandem, you have the ability to more effectively reach your audience members to boost conversions and improve brand awareness.

As mentioned in our definition above, ecommerce marketing is about driving awareness and action towards your product or service.

Produce Original Content

The first step in setting up an eCommerce website is creating the content for it. Creating high-quality and original content will set you up for success because it will resonate with your customers in a way that makes them want to interact with you, purchase from you, and maintain a following.

Be creative. Be original.

Promoting original content is a great way to make a statement, strike a compelling idea, and make a mark on the user’s mind. There is a fine line between content that engages users and content that deters them.

Why not take an extra step, put in a little effort, and create something that will be genuinely compelling?

Optimize Your Website Layout

After launching or redesigning your e-commerce site, it’s important to test your website’s layout, language, and placement of conversion elements. When customers visit your website, you want to make sure it’s easy and simple to check out, that they feel naturally inclined to purchase your products and that it’s abundantly clear how to do so.

You should test the language displayed on your landing and product pages, the language in your conversion elements, and even the strategic placement of icons and elements. You can use various usability testing methods for this.

Include Reviews On Product Pages

I can’t overstate the importance of reviews. 84% of people trust online reviews as much as they trust their friends. That means we either really trust reviews or we all have really bad friends…I’m going to assume it’s the former.

Optimize For Voice Search

Olga Mykhoparkina, CMO of team chat platform Chanty, predicts voice search will be the biggest trend for ecommerce marketing strategies in 2020.

“As more buyers are using voice to search for products, brands that optimize their content for these search terms will have the upper hand in grabbing organic traffic from search engines,” she said.

The biggest challenge is there still aren’t many tools to analyze popular voice search terms, but she nevertheless believes 2020 will be the year content and SEO begin to accommodate voice.
